The Property
House Party in The Somme
The Chateau offers exclusive house party accommodation deep within the open plains of southern Picardie, Somme, France. Named after Jacques - Antoine, 1st Marquis de Rune, who built the chateau in 1725, this beautiful home is a place to relax and enjoy a home from home.
Enjoy the sunny south facing terrace before a day exploring. Come back to a romantic candlelit dinner in the sumptuous dining room or, if you prefer, a kitchen supper by the roaring fire - you choose - whatever you want, wherever you want, whenever you want.
There are 12 large double rooms: Marquis de Rune is a large room with adjoining bathroom. Monsieur Alain is a north facing room with a magnificent antique bed and an unusual feature of a washbasin in the cupboard. Comtesse de Villiers is a large room with adjoining shower room, and looks out over the park. Seigneur de Beaucamps is also a large room with adjoining shower / dressing room and excellent views. The Orangerie, as the name suggests, looks over the Orangerie and has a private bathroom / toilet. Yolande’s room is a charming room also overlooking the Orangerie, with a shared bathroom.

The newly renovated Gatehouse stands guard over the chateau, nestling between the imposing wrought iron main gates and the vaulted entrance to the ´cour de la ferme´. It has three bedrooms, two spacious double rooms with views onto the chateau and a third room with bunk beds, overlooking the courtyard. The downstairs TV ´snug´ includes a double sofa bed, and there is a main living room and dining area and fully equipped kitchen.
About Your Hosts
Sue and Simon bought the Chateau in 2003. Prior to this they have lived in Johannesburg, Paris and Suffolk. They have two children, George (aged 15) and Katie (aged 14).
Simon is an international businessman and has worked in the telecommunications industry since leaving the Army in 1986. Sue sold her PR and investor relations business in 1999, and retired. She now runs the chateau full-time.
Sue, Simon, George and Katie share their home with three cats, a Border collie, two swans, four geese, various ducks, pheasants and chickens and a turkey that escaped the Christmas pot last year!
Out and About
There are two lakes and the river Avre running through the park in which you can fish. The five-acre spring-fed Big Lake is home to carp, pike and eel. Simon and his clay traps are at your disposal and, by arrangement during the season, there’s also pheasant, duck, wild boar and roe deer while Patrice and his archery targets brighten up the front lawn.
The hard tennis court is situated next to the vegetable garden and orchard.
There’s no shortage of trails for walking in the chateau grounds, and also marked trails through neighbouring villages.
Take the rowing boat out or stay sipping a lazy glass of wine by the pool.
We can also offer various itineraries for sightseeing by helicopter or hot air balloon, weather permitting.
The neighbouring village of Guerbigny boasts a tabac, selling cigarettes and alcohol, a top quality butcher and traiteur and a garage. A ‘bread lady’ passes the chateau daily at about noon, and a fishmonger visits once a week.
The nearest towns are Montdidier (6km) and Roye (10km), both of which have excellent shops, pizzeria and other facilities. Roye also offers a number of excellent restaurants, including the Michelin * La Flamiche – one of the best restaurants outside Paris.
EuroDisney is 1.5 hours away , and Parc Asterix, only 40 minutes down the autoroute.
